Nagarkot with the amazing Himalayan views

Nagarkot village:

Nagarkot is a village located 32 km west of Kathmandu, Nepal in Bhaktapur District. At an elevation of 2,195 meters, it is considered one of the most scenic spots in Bhaktapur District. It is known for a sunrise view of the Himalayas including Mount Everest as well as other peaks of the Himalayan range of eastern Nepal. Nagarkot also offers a panoramic view of the Kathmandu Valley. The scenic beauty of the place makes it a very popular hiking route for tourists.

Most inhabitants of Nagarkot live spread over a fairly large area in the valley. This means that the village of Nagarkot actually looks quite small. It is a long street with some side streets. This main street consists mainly of hotels, restaurants and supermarkets. However, Nagarkot is the ideal location for some of the most beautiful hikes. These start directly at the village street. Below our favorite walking routes.

Village walk:

This was our favorite walk. It starts by descending into the valley. Then the route leads through the villages of Kaflenigaun > Sathikuriyagaun and Rohinigaun. This is the perfect way to observe everyday farm life.

From Rohinigaun, the trek continues up the mountain, and from here the road leads back to Nagarkot. The beauty of this route is that the way back leads high over the mountain. The way there the village life, and the way back the most beautiful panoramic views. The best of both worlds in a hike. Total length approximately 14 km.

Panoramic hiking trail:

This trail is probably the most chosen trail around Nagarkot. In fact, you have the most beautiful views into the valley throughout the entire route. This is literally enjoying at a great height.

you have a long route and the short route. We walked the short route and this was about 6 km. Put on hiking shoes because the route can be wet because some waterfalls run over the path.

Nature trail:

This trail starts just after the school on the main street. This path is actually very different from the previous ones. Most of the route leads through the forest. The perfect way to enjoy the local flora and fauna. There is also plenty to see for bird and insect lovers. It is important to bring a bottle of mosquito spray here in the forest. Especially recently it is important to protect yourself well because of the increase in Dengue infections.

At the end of the forest you can choose, like us, to walk back via the road. In this way, in addition to the beautiful forest path, you also get some beautiful panoramic views. In addition, it is more fun to walk in a round than twice on the same path. Total length of this route 6km.

Enjoy the sunrise:

Since Nagarkot is located on top of a high mountain with the best views, this is the ideal location to enjoy a beautiful sunrise. This can be done next to one of the well-known routes, or viewpoints.

We ourselves were lucky enough to stay at the Everest Window View Hotel. This hotel had a beautiful roof terrace and now in October it was nice and clear. The excellent location to attend the sunrise. The above hotel is well worth recommending, nice new and clean. Friendly staff and good cuisine.

Our experience:

We loved Nagarkot. It is small, but beautifully situated and the views are to be enjoyed. Furthermore, it is surrounded by small farming villages where the local life can be closely observed. It is small, and almost everyone comes here to hike. So if hiking is not your thing, or if you have difficulty walking, we recommend that you choose another destination. But it is great for hikers and nature enthusiasts.
