Tumpak Sewu is clearly the most spectaculair waterfall of Java Indonesia. Yes, Indonesia is home to many waterfalls, including many beautiful waterfalls, but Tumpak Sewu is in a class of its own. Air Terjun Tumpak Sewu means 1000 Waterfalls and honestly the Indonesians could not picked a better name.
From above Tumpak Sewu looks like the tree of life, you can even see a vulcano on the background. We were very lucky that it was erupting during our visit. First of all you can view the waterfall from the viewpoint with the volcano in the background. Then there is the possibility to descend down. This is where the true power of the waterfall really comes into play. Note: the descent is quite steep through rivers and with rope ladders, so not suitable for everyone.
We visited Tumpak Sewu from Malang, about 2.5 hours drive. Fortunately, Vico from Condor Walun Hostel arranged and took care of the entire tour for us.
This made the experience even better. A beautiful garden has been laid out around Tumpak Sewu, and with a bit of luck you can gain many interesting experiences here. For example, we took the opportunity to organize a durian and chili eating contest, which was great fun! There are also durian trees, cinnamon trees and other interesting vegetation to see.
To end the day well, we went to a hidden waterfall for a swim. Fantastic and wonderful that this beautiful place has not yet been discovered by the tourists. The beauty is the hidden location, so it remains a secret.
