Pokhara, City of lakes.

Pokhara city:

Pokhara is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Nepal. Many tourists visit Pokhara Valley to see the Himalayan range and lakes. Its about a 6 hours drive from Kathmandu. We have arranged a taxi from the hotel, but there are also options for tourist buses or local buses. We recommend arranging a taxi or a tourist bus.

Pokhara is one of our favorite places in Nepal because there is so much to see and to do. There are nice souvenir shops, hotels, restaurants and a lot of activities. Pokhara is a fairly large city surrounded by green mountains and hills. West of Pokhara is the Phewa Lake. It is the best location to stay around this lake as a tourist.

Visit the lake by boat:

You can rent boats on the lake. You can rent this by yourself or with a guide. We did this ourselves and we went over the lake with a pedal boat. We can really recommend this., the views are increddible and the lake is very calm and relaxing. You see the Himalaya and Annapurna range and it is incredible beautiful. We rented the boat for 2 hours and paid 1800 roepie.

Trekking:

Unfortunately, due to our travel time, we had no more time for trekking in Pokhara. However, this is recommended as many tours operations are organized from here. You can book these tours in advance or on site. If you really want to undergo a special experience, take part in a hike to the Annapurna basecamp, but you need 10 days for this. The stories and photos are all worth it.

Cable Car:

What you should not miss in Pokhara is the Annapurna Cable Car. There is a very nice road that runs along the lake towards the cable car. It is doable within walking distance and it takes about 30 minutes to walk from the village.

With the Cable Car you go to a viewpoint where you can see the Annapurna mountains, incredibly beautiful! The Cable Car is about 9 dollars per person and worth it! The last cable car goes back around 6 o'clock, so keep that in mind. When you return, be sure to walk along the lake.

Walk around:

You can have a nice walk around the lake with a good view, and good options of restaurants, bars, a small amusement park and it is very cozy there at night. Pokhara also has many nice shops on Lakeside Road, here is everything for sale, from nice souvenirs to full hike equipment. The best time to visit Pokhara is from September to November because the mountains and peaks are clearly visible.
