Langkawi, the Jewel of Kedah.

Updated: Aug 5, 2022

Langkawi is synonymous with "tropical paradise". This beautiful island on the west coast of Malaysia offers everything for a relaxing holiday. This is undoubtedly due to the beautiful beaches and intact jungle.

Langkawi is suitable for families as well as backpackers as it has a lot to offer. From water sports activities to island hopping. In addition, you have the opportunity to overlook the entire island from one of the most beautiful views from the Langkawi cable car and adjacent skybridge. Again we had no luck and the viewpoint was surrounded by fog. This seemed to stay like this all day so we descended again. An hour later, however, everything had cleared up, again proof that patience pays off.

Close to the cable car there is a beautiful jungle full of wild animals. A short hike and you come to a lovely waterfall. Then hike a little further and you arrive at the seven wells. Very pleasant to take a refreshing dip here before starting the descent again. Another viewpoint is located in the middle of this varying island called Gunung Raya viewing tower. This view is also breathtaking. Tip: there is a good chance that you can spot the beautiful Dusty Leaf Monkey here.

There are 2 ways to reach Langkawi. Option 1 is by plane, or option 2 by ferry from the mainland as we did. The ferry departs from Kuala Kedah or Kuala Perlis. Both of these places are easily accessible from KL or Penang by bus or train.

Finally, a recommendation for a stay in Langkawi, in our view Cenang is the best location for tourists. Close to some beautiful beaches, good nightlife, nice boulevard, many stalls and shops, water sports activities, go-kart track, aquarium and close to the airport. And finally our favorite the Pantai Cenang night Market, with cheap but oh so delicious food from various food trucks, yum.
